(Sioux Falls, S.D.) – Good Samaritan Society President and CEO David Horazdovsky says innovation is the answer to many of the nation’s healthcare issues. That’s the message he shared with U.S. Senator John Thune during a recent visit Thune made to the Society’s corporate headquarters in Sioux Falls, S.D.

 

“I’m more and more convinced … that we can’t spend our way out of the problem we’re in with our healthcare,” Horazdovsky told Thune. “We can’t totally cut our costs … so I think the answer is how are we going to innovate our way into a new solution?”

With the assistance of an $8.1 million grant, the Good Samaritan Society is currently conducting a research study, called LivingWell@Home, on how technology placed in the home can help seniors live as independently as possible.

The Good Samaritan Society’s LivingWell@Home research project is a free study that monitors eligible participants for one year to evaluate the effectiveness of wellness technologies. The program includes motion sensors, personal emergency response systems, and telehealth services. Without the use of cameras or microphones, nurse specialists are able to provide care and assistance remotely by analyzing data trends collected by the technologies.
